Valve has delivered a surprise to all "old school" fans: three years after its official closure, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has returned to the Steam store. Amidst the dominance of CS2, the opportunity to launch the classic version of the shooter once again has caused a real sensation.
How to Find CS:GO on Steam?
The developers did not make the game publicly available to everyone. Currently, the shooter's page is hidden:
- The game does not appear in the store search results.
- You can only add CS:GO to your library via a direct link.
Despite these restrictions, players instantly spread the page address. By the morning of March 4, 2026, the peak player count in CS:GO had already surpassed 10,000 people and continues to grow rapidly.
Why Does This Matter?
As a reminder, in 2023, CS:GO was completely replaced by Counter-Strike 2 on the Source 2 engine. All esports and official servers moved to the new version, and Global Offensive remained available only as a "legacy" beta branch without proper matchmaking for a long time.
With the return of the classic version, users retain access to their inventory and skins, which now look identical in both versions of the game.
Will Official Servers Return?
It remains unclear whether Valve plans to support matchmaking in CS:GO or if this is merely a gift for those who enjoy playing on community servers. However, the very fact that a separate game page has returned to the store suggests that the company recognizes the value of the classic.
